Charity eBay - Changes to Payment

Sellers have new options for credit card payment acceptance that improve the buyer experience on the eBay website and mobile app.

eBay is implementing changes to payment acceptance options for sellers who use their internet merchant account (or Integrated Merchant Credit Card (IMCC) account) to accept credit cards online at eBay checkout. This is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the buyer experience and better support the seller community.

Beginning March 1, 2019, new listings can only be created using an alternate payment acceptance option. After May 1, 2019, eBay is fully discontinuing support for Integrated Merchant Credit Card accounts as a payment acceptance method, and all existing listings will need to be updated with an alternate option.

In order to continue selling on eBay and offer a better experience to your buyers, eligible sellers can select between two alternate supported payment acceptance options - managed payments by eBay and/or PayPal. Please coordinate with your existing internet current merchant account provider - Payflow, Authorize.Net, CyberSource or other - for support on any refunds, chargebacks, or claim obligations for transactions processed on eBay prior to May 1, 2019.

What are the advantages of accepting credit cards through managed payments by eBay?

All eBay sellers will eventually transition to managed payments. It offers:

  • Expert support on payments - personalized assistance on phone and email from a payments expert for initial set-up and ongoing support. This includes onboarding assistance, a performance assessment, a Getting Started Guide and other resources to support your transition. You’ll also be invited to be part of a private online community and provide feedback on future features

  • One place for all account information - Payments activities in one place, on eBay (protections, billing, reports, servicing, disputes) and automatic payments directly to your bank account

  • New way to purchase for your buyers - Apple Pay, a new and easy way to purchase on mobile, along with credit, debit and gift cards (PayPal expected in Summer 2019)

  • Exclusive benefits - Participate in coupons and promotions only for managed payments buyers

Compared to your internet merchant account:

  • Your mobile buyers will be able to check out with your listings on the eBay mobile app

  • You will have more post-transaction support because eBay will track your refunds

How can I process payments with PayPal?

If you choose to process payments with PayPal, and are not currently not using PayPal as a buyer payment option on eBay, click here or update your eBay account to link it to a PayPal account through MyeBay (MyeBay -> Account -> PayPal account - click ‘Link my PayPal account’) or Seller Hub (Seller Hub -> Account Summary -> PayPal account - click ‘Link my PayPal account’). Use PayPal as the payment acceptance option when creating new listings after March 1, 2019.

You also need to update all existing listings (using MyeBay or Seller Hub or your preferred 3rd party listing tool) to include PayPal as the payment acceptance option before May 1, 2019.
